Regenerative Thermal Oxidisers for Venezuelan Aluminium Primary Smelter

E2SL has an engineering contract to design and manage installation of two RTOs for CVG Venalum.

September 2004

Having seen the successful Regenerative Thermal Oxidiser (RTO) at the cathode baking furnace of Vesuvius UK, Bawtry, CVG Venalum ordered two for their anode baking furnaces in Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela. Front end engineering is complete and the units are currently under construction for commissioning mid 2006. Each RTO will extract 54,000 normal cubic metres per hour of fume laden exhaust gas from the anode baking furnace flue system via an inlet duct at a temperature of 70-150°C, and a slight negative pressure. The selected level of suction is maintained by a continuous automatic pressure control loop varying the speed of the induced draught fan that discharges to the chimney.

CVG Venalum a major aluminium primary smelting company have awarded associates of E2SL a multi-million US Dollar turnkey contract to install two RTO to improve atmospheric discharges from their Number 1 Carbon Baking Kiln. During 2003 Venalum technologists research the available technology to replace original fit, and worn out, electro-static precipitators to clean-up emissions from one of their two carbon baking kilns. The search for replacement plant had one over-riding objective, that was to apply technology that would destroy the dangerous pollutants and yield zero residual polluting products. This search took them to the only proven technology to meet their needs, the E2SL Regenerative Thermal Oxidiser.
